You can eat cheaply in Bali. A good Nasi Campur ( mixed rice) at a warung costs around the equivalent of one US Dollar. Or, you can wine and dine in Bali's best hotels for prices similar to home. Then there is the myriad of restaurants that offer a wide variety of fare from local, delicious dishes to food from far away places such as France or Mexico. |
Generally, restaurant prices are a very good bargain. Dinner for two for $15.00 USD can be found in most of Bali's restaurants.
In Bali rice is a must at most meals. Nasi Campur (Champur) is rice with different accompaniments such as spicy, zesty vegetables called "lawar sayur" or finely chopped fish, chicken or beef with garlic, onions and chilies called "lawar daging". This is the mainstay of the Bali diet. Give it a try!
On festive occasions, the islanders love "bebeck tutu" (Smoked duck). "Lawar" again is a favorite addition to the holiday menu. It is often hard to find these items in local restaurants.
Remember, in Bali, although standards have improved, always drink bottled water and never eat from a street food stall. Generally speaking you dont have to worry as all the restaurants have been serving tourists for years.
